Olympe de Gouges, originally named Marie Gouze, was an activist and writer who lived during the French Revolution.
At the age of 16, she was forced into marriage, but after her husband's death, she moved to Paris and changed her name to Olympe de Gouges.
She received an education in Paris and became a prominent figure in Parisian society, hosting salons for intellectuals and writing plays, poetry, and political pamphlets.
De Gouges advocated for pacifism, abolitionism, and an end to the death penalty. She proposed a tax plan that would distribute wealth more evenly, provide welfare for the less fortunate, and protect women and children.
